Compare and Contrast

Didcot North East’s developer is Croudace Homes. Along side the planned development of between 1800 and 2030 houses, they will deliver two new primary schools, one new secondary school, a new £15m leisure centre with “Olympic size pool” and outdoor sports pitches. As well as extensive new road infrastructure. There is also a massive obligation to ‘fix’ the site with regards to flooding and re-routing of utilities. Finally, there is also a massive ‘section 106 / CIL’ agreement which will see significant funds being created to help with all manner of public services. Continue reading

We love it when…

Badge…SODC has a plan for housing. It is called the Core Strategy 2012. It was creating following endless rounds of consultation and analysis. It looked at and examined all the options. The Green Gap was included in all this and deemed the least appropriate of all options. It was reviewed, challenged (by Grainger of course) and approved at both local and national level. Being totally presumptuous here

If we say nothing-1The phrase “a presumption in favour of development” is used a lot in the context of a lack of 5 year housing land supply. This, in turn, is taken as a green light for developers and development.

At least this is a narrative encouraged by the developers themselves. A narrative designed to suggest to residents that it is simply not worth opposing schemes because they are inevitable. The few of us lucky enough to hear about Grainger’s exhibition will remember their consultants saying, ‘well it is going to happen anyway’. It is why their pretty exhibition boards had “sustainable development” plastered all of them which it the litmus test of development.
